People have very high standards how they want their work-life to be.

 

사람들이 원하는 직장생활의 눈높이는 매우 높습니다.

if you can get your work life to be where you enjoy half of it,

 

만약 여러분이 직장생활을 절반정도라도 만족할수 있다면

 

that is amazing.

 

그건 정말로 놀라운 일입니다.

 

because very few people ever achieve that

 

왜냐하면 그걸 성취한 사람은 거의 없기 때문입니다

 

because the truth is everything comes with overhead,

 

왜냐하면 사실, 모든일에는 비용이 따르기 때문입니다. 

 

that's reality.

 

그것이 바로 현실이죠.

 

Everything comes with pieces that you don't like.

 

모든일에는 당신이 좋아하지 않는것들이 따라옵니다

You can be a Supreme Court Justice 

 

당신이 대법관이 된다해도

and there still gonna be pieces of your job. You don't like.

여전히 그런직업에도 여러분이 싫어하는 일들이 있을것 입니다

 

Every job comes with pieces you don't like

모든 직업에는 여러분들이 싫어하는 것들이 따라옵니다.

we need to say that's part of it.

우리는 그것이 직장생활의 일부라는것을 인정해야 합니다.

 

You have to figure out how to set up your life in such a way

이런 식으로 여러분들의 삶을 꾸려나갈 방법을 알아내야 합니다.

 

that you can minimize the things.

싫어하는들을 최소화 하는 방식으로 말이죠

 

 I find people don’t dislike hard work,

저는 사람들이 힘든일을 싫어하지 않는다는것을 알았습니다

 

but what people dislike is being out of control.

하지만 사람들이 싫어하는것은 무언가가 통제 불능이 되는 것이었습니다.

 

Like they can't control their life,

마치 그들의 삶을 통제할수 없다거나

they can't control their environment.

그들의 주변 환경을 조절할수 없는 경우를 말이죠.

 

 

 

This happens to me when I get over scheduled.

이런일은 저의 하루일정이 초과하게 되었을때도 마찬가지 였습니다 . 

 

I hate being over scheduled.

저는 일정이 초과되는것을 매우 싫어합니다.

 

I want some time to be able to think and free myself.

저는 스스로 생각하고 자유로워질 수 있는 시간이 필요해요.

 

We all have the same amount of time in the world.

우리모두는 똑같은 양의 시간을 가지고 있습니다

Nobody has more time than anybody else

다른사람보다 더 많은 시간을 가진 사람은 없습니다

 

 

 

 

when you become a very successful person.

누군가가 매우 성공을 하게 되면

 

One of the things you start to get over scheduled.

변하게 되는것중 하나가 바로 일정의 초과 입니다.

 

So young person starting their career..

사회생활을 시작하는 젊은이들에게는

 

I think they're probably a lot of things.

많은 일들이 있을것이라 생각해요.

 

some of them are very well known.

그중 몇몇은 아주 익숙하고.

 

and people have heard that many times.

많이 들어본 것들일거에요.

 

One of those that you should always focus on

그중에서 여러분이 항상 주목해야  하는것은

 

 the young person should find something that they're passionate about to do,

젊은 사람들은 그들이 열정적으로 하려는 무언가를 찾아야 한다는 것입니다.

 

 

 

and that's not going to surprise anyone

이것은 놀랄일이 아니며

 

it's a clear thing to do

이렇게 하는것은 당연합니다.

 

It Is very hard. If you don't love your work,

만약 여러분들의 일을 좋아하지 않는다면, 사회생활은 매우 어려울것입니다.

you're never going to be great at it.

절대로 잘하게 될수도 없죠.

 

The other thing, I would suggest to any young person,

젋은 사람에게 제가 제안하고 싶은 또다른 하나는.

 

even before they start their career is

심지어 사회생활을 시작하기 전이라도. 

 

to really think about their choices

그들의 선택 에 대해서 꼭 고민해 보아야 한다는것 입니다.

 

because I found young people and when I was young,

왜냐하면 젋은 사람들이나,  제가 어렸을적에도 마찬가지로

 

I made that mistake too.

이런 실수돌을 한적이 있습니다.

 

You can get very fixed on your gifts.

여러분들은 여러분들의 재능에 매우 집착하게 됩니다.

 

 

 

So everybody has gifts.

모든사람들은 재능을 가지고 있죠.

 

and you have things that you didn't get gifted.

혹은 여러분들이 가지지 못한 재능도 있을것입니다.

 

Maybe you're extremely beautiful,

매우 아름다운 외모를 가질수도 있고

 

maybe you're extremely good at mathematics.

엄청나게 수학을 잘할수도 있죠.

 

there are a lot of things you can be given,

수없이 많은 재능들이 있을수 있습니다

 

but those things can confuse you

하지만 그런것들은 여러분들을 혼란스럽게 만들수도 있습니다.

 

because they're not the things that construct your life.

왜냐하면 그런재능들은 여러분들의 삶을 만들어내는 것이 아니기 때문입니다.

 

It's your choices. To construct your life. not your gifts.

삶을 만드는 것은 재능이 아니라 , 여러분들의 선택들 입니다.

 

 

 

You can celebrate your gifts. 

재능을 가진것을 기뻐할수 있습니다.

 

be proud of them.,be happy of them.

자랑스러워 하고. 행복해할수 있지만.

 

Actually, don’t be proud of them, be celebratory of them.

그것은 사실 자랑스러워 하거나, 축하할일은 아닙니다.

 

You can’t be proud because they’re gifts.

타고난 재능이기에, 자랑스러워 할 일이 아닌것 입니다..

 

They were given to you, You didn’t earn them.

재능은 저절로 주어진 것이지, 얻은것이 아닙니다.

 

you can only be proud of the things you earn..

자랑스러워 할수 있는건 오직 스스로 얻은것 이어야 합니다.

 

And so, as I got older,I started to realize

그래서 저는 나이가 들면서 깨닫게 되었습니다.

 

 

 I wasn't proud of my gifts.

저는 저의 재능이 자랑스러워 할만한것이 아니라는것을.

 

I was always good at school school,so it's easy for me

 

저는 늘 학교에서 공부를 잘 하는 학생이었죠. 저에게는 공부는 쉬운것이었어요. 

 

and I was proud that I was a great student. I got A’s in all my classes.

모든 과목에서 A를 받는 멋진 학생이라는것이 저는 자랑스러웠습니다.

I was good at math . all of that.

수학이든 뭐든지 다 잘했죠.

 

and I thought I thought that's who I was.

저는 그것이 저의 본 모습이라고 생각했습니다.

 

but it's not true.

하지만 그것은 진실이 아니었죠.

 

Those are the things that are gifts.

그런것들은 전부 재능이었던 것이죠.

 

what was hard for me, is deciding to work hard.

저에게 힘들었던 것은 열심히 일을 하느냐.

deciding to use my gifts.in certain ways 

나의 재능을 다양하게 활용할것이냐 였습니다.

 

to challenge myself

스스로에게 도전하기 위해

 

to do things that I didn't think I could do 

내가 할수 없다고 생각하는 일을 하거나

 

to put myself in uncomfortable situations,

스스로를 불편한 상황에 처하도록 하기도 합니다.

 

I would say to a young person.

젊은 사람들에게 이렇게 말씀드리고 싶어요.

 

you can choose a life of ease and comfort

여러분들은 편안하고 편리한 삶을 선택할수도 있고

 

or you can choose a life of service and Adventure,

혹은 봉사 와 모험의 삶을 선택할수 있습니다.

 

 

which one of those, when you're 90 years old,

어느쪽을 선택하는것이, 여러분이 90살이 되었을때

 

are you going to be more proud of?

더 자랑스러울것 같은가요?

 

My advice would be the same for any kind of entrepreneur

저의 조언은 어떤 종류의 사업가 에게라도 똑같을 것입니다.

 

and that is

그것은 바로

 

make sure that you are focused on something you're passionate about.

여러분들이 열정적으로 할수 있는 무언가에 집중하라고 말이죠.

 

So if you look at the early internet companies,

초기 인터넷 회사들을 보면

 

they were Started and focused on doing something

그들은 무언가에 집중하기 시작합니다.

 

that they thought was very interesting.

그들이 생각하기에 흥미롭다고 여기는것이었는데

 

long before the internet was fashionable in any way.

인터넷이 유행하기 훨씬 전부터 말이죠.

 

we are currently an underdog

우리는 현재 약자 입니다..

 

once again we've been in business for six years

6년동안 이 사업을 이어왔는데

 

and there was exactly one year we were not the underdog in that was 1999.

딱 1999년 1년동안만 약자가 아니었습니다.

I like the the underdog years because it makes I liked it.

저는  어려운 시기를 더 좋아합니다 왜냐하면 제 일을 더 사랑하게 만들어주기 때문이죠 

 

you can't follow the fashion.

여러분들은 유행을 따라갈순 없어요.

 

when you're trying to do a startup company.

스타트업 회사를 운영하려 할때는 말이죠.

 

you have to as an entrepreneur

 기업가 로써는.

 

if you're going to if you're going to build a company

만약 여러분들이 회사를 세우려고 할때는

 

 pick something you think is interesting.

여러분들이 흥미롭다고 생각하는것을 고르세요.

 

That has the intersection of genuinely creating real customer value

그것이 바로 진정한 고객 가치를 창출해내는 지점입니다.

 

and then just stay right there. And let the wave catch you,

그리고 그곳에 가만히 서서 유행의 흐름이 당신을 붙잡도록 해보세요.

 

whatever it is that you want to do,

여러분들이 원하는것이 무엇이든간에.

 

there's going to be risk your life,

여러분들의 인생에는 위험이 따를것입니다.

 

and risk is a necessary component of progress.

그리고 그 위험은 성장을 하기 위한 필수 요소일 것입니다.

 

You can make any pioneering movements in the world of any kind

여러분들은 이 세상에서  그 어떤분야라도 개척해낼수 있습니다. 

 

 

whether they be the geographical physical exploration,

그것이 지리학적 물리적인 탐사이거나.

 

whether it be more cerebral exploration of a scientific field.

혹은 더 뇌적인 과학 분야 이거나.
